I can't imagine a big company like Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) would make mistakes like this. I think they don't have good change management or a visible approval process. Intel is probably going to use this to their advantage.
A representative for Advanced Micro Devices said that the listing of unannounced AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ processor in an official document was a “mistake” and should not be “there”.
Recently released official document of AMD titled “AMD Athlon 64 Processor Power and Thermal Data Sheet” lists AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ processor for socket 939 and claims that it has 2600MHz core-clock and 2MB of cache (1MB per core) – exactly the same specifications as compared to AMD Athlon 64 FX-60. On the other of the same document the chip is described as 2600MHz processor with 1MB of cache (512KB per core).
“It’s a mistake, shouldn’t be on the sheet,” said Damon Muzny, a spokesman for AMD. “It’s a typo for certain, just not sure what the mistake was yet. As there isn’t a 5000+ part for 939 or AM2 yet, I can’t give an official answer if that part is to come out in the future.”
