Dell today announced its acquisition plans regarding Alienware Corporation. Dell, the world's largest computer manufacturer today announced that it is going to buy out Alienware Corporation, renowned for their high-end PC's. The Alienware PCs were always in the news for their innovative style and high end performance and were a favorite among hard core gamers. Dell did not give out the financial details of the deal but admitted that Alienware would operate as a wholly owned subsidiary . It would keep its trademark and will do its own product development, marketing, sales, technical support and other operations.
Alienware was founded by Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila who manufactured specialized gaming PCs which would cost an average of $3,000 to $4,000. Alienware is on the roadway to reach $225 million in sales this year, up from $172 million in 2005. "This acquisition makes sense because the space that Alienware plays in is a high-growth segment of the PC business. It's also a high-margin segment," an analyst at IDC, Richard Shim, said.
To coincide with this news, Dell has launched their hot new gaming PC - the PS Renegade models 600/400.
