Intel Corp on 13th March announced a low power, dual-core server processor, a first for them this processor would generally be useful to servers, storage devices, and telecom equipment and for now the chip has been named Xeon LV, and code-named Sossaman. The Xeon LV at 31 watts according to Intel will be ideal for customers who want energy efficiency at reasonable prices. The Xeon LV is part of Intel's lineup of low-power chips which stress on power-efficient chips at affordable prices.
Intel has big hopes for the Xeon LV and wants to put it in IBM's blade server and also in Supermicro's servers. Then there is Hewlett-Packard who plans to sell telecom network equipment with a circuit board Intel will build which would be equipped with two Xeon LVs and called Net Structure MPCBL0040. With Intel's latest low-voltage dual-core processor technology, we enable our customers to meet the demand for high-performance and highly reliable server solutions that consume less power and emit less noise," said Charles Liang, CEO of Supermicro, headquartered in San Jose, California.
