The folks at Intel these days are extremely busy, coming up with new technologies all the time. On March 7, Intel Corp demonstrated Intel's new micro architecture where the upcoming "Conroe" desktop CPU was displayed which promises a 40-percent boost in performance and 40-percent decrease in power consumption compared Pentium D 950 processor. Made by with 65-nanometer-process engineering, it will be seen in all dual-core CPUs with the Intel Core name.
Other cutting edge technologies include what Intel names 'Wide Dynamic Execution' which promises to perform upto instructions per clock cycle sing a 14-stage pipeline. An Advanced Smart Cache would also be seen which would use level 2 cache that can be devoted to one core when the other is not in use. Smart Memory Access which hides Memory latency and intelligent Power Capability yields cooler-running would also be featured in the new desktop. Conroe would be targeted at business needs and the IT sector for enhanced security and Intel Virtualization for Directed I/O, which will assign I/O devices to virtual machines.
Intel is expected to offer a full line of 65-nm chips (Merom, Conroe and Woodcrest) in the second half of 2006. Check out the Intel Conroe performance preview here
