Another possible merger bites the dust. Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology today denied that there’s a possible merger on the horizon. This rumor was first published in a chinese media report which claimed that senior MSI executive; Henry Lu had contacted Gigabyte five years ago over a possible merger. Lu claims that his comments were misinterpreted and exaggerated and he had no such plans.
MSI admitted that there were some initial talks but the idea soon fizzled. This was confirmed by Gigabyte chairman Dandy Yeh who said that even though he did meet up with Lu five years ago, nothing concrete came up. This possible merger was followed closely by industry experts who worried that the consolidation of first-tier players would squeeze the growth of second-tier makers.
