The New Hitachi SATA hard drives are generating a lot of buzz which includes hard drives like 7K500, which boasts of a massive capacity of 500GB.However the one we are talking about is the T7K250 which uses a twin-platter model, where each platter stores 125GB of data, making it stand out from the rest. This is important as it increases the hard drive performance because of the decreased distance the read/write head has to move. The number of components used in the drive is also less compared to normal hard drives thus decreasing the over all cost too.
The T7K250 also makes less sound and has an operating noise level that is two decibels lower than the three-platter job. Specifications include SATA II design with 8MB of cache, a 7,200rpm spin speed and support for NCQ or Native Command Queuing which speeds up the transfers between the hard drive and CPU. However it suffers from one major drawback is that this hard drive cannot transfer data at the implied rate of 30MB/second, fast, cheap, quiet and cool and a great value for money.
