Samsung Electronics these days are making their presence felt in every aspect of the technology world. Now they have just announced a 32GB solid state disk which will try to replace the conventional hard disks one finds in mobile computers. This as expected has created a lot of hype because something like this has never been attempted before. One great feature of the new disk would be that it would have read and write speeds around twice as fast as existing 1.8" hard drives and would consume 95% less power. (the less power consumed, the less nuclear reactors we need!)
The 1.8 inch hard drives may not have huge storage capacity which the in long run would be advantageous because of the high speeds and less power consumption. Read speeds are reported to be approximately 57MB/sec with write speeds coming in at 32MB. It also has the patented Samsung NAND which promises less noise and smooth functionality. The Samsung hard disks are predicted to be a hit as they are expected to be affordable.

http://www.dvnation.com/ssd.html has SSDs now! From 8GB to 128GB in capacity. IDE and SATA. As low as $599. The speeds vary but the features are mostly the same. Indestructable. Rugged. I put the 16GB SSD in my Aopen Pandora miniPC and will put one in my next laptop computer.
