I really admire Seagate. Its been called the 2006 Company of the Year in the January 9 issue of Forbes Magazine and it has Maxtor under its wing now. Its $925 million net for the past 12 months was three times what its two nearest competitors earned, combined. Is there anything they can't do ?

Nearline storage is the linchpin of tiered storage in midrange and high-end network environments, filling the gap between online and offline (archival) enterprise storage. That's where Seagate's NL35 Series SATA drives has made large storage in Nearline environments much more affordable and reliable. The NL35 is versatile enough to work in existing hardware and with 1 million hours MTB and 5 year warranty this drive is perfect for small companies and medical environments. Definitely a good choice if you are moving away from traditional offline storate solutions like tape and CD.
NL35 Series SATA drives include all of the advanced features found in Barracuda® 7200.8 SATA drives, including Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and the SoftSonicTM motor. With the One Step Microcode Download feature, The NL35 firmware can be upgraded in multiple drives in one system and yet only reset or rebooted one time when all are completed thus reducing server downtime.
