AMD these days is living an IT company’s worst nightmare. According to the latest news doing the rounds, AMD is actually in the process of recalling as many as 3,000 Opteron processors and is busy these days tracking them down. These processors have been reportedly displaying unpredictable behavior especially under high-temperature conditions. AMD basically found problems in only those processors which were manufactures in the past six months or so. This is what InformationWeek had to say in their report:
“Because of the tests, AMD has changed the screening process for rating the two product lines as the chips come off the production line, Taylor said. As a result, some chips that would have been rated with clock speeds of 2.8 MHz in the past would be listed at 2.6 MHz, making them less likely to be used in extreme computing environments.”
