Seagate Technology yesterday showcased the world's first desktop hard drive with a monstrous 750GB storage capacity which is a part of the new Barracuda 7200.10 family and is built on perpendicular recording technology. This technology makes data bits stand vertically onto the disc media unlike traditional drives approach to make the drive more stable and durable. The Barracuda 7200.10 features cache sizes from 8MB to 16MB and 1.5Gb/s and 3.0Gb/s Serial ATA (SATA) data transfer rates with Native Command Queuing.
Seagate throws in a 5 year warranty with the drive which is ideal for environments like system builders and single-user systems such as desktop PC RAID, digital editing, hot-rod gaming etc. The onboard Adaptive Fly Height feature leads to superior consistency of read/write performance by adjusting the drive according to the changes in the system. The series is now shipping and prices vary according to configurations.
