The year 2006 has seen a number of new developments in the IT world which will directly affect the average consumers and home users. One such development was regarding the mass production of Blu-Ray discs which is basically has been developed for recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. One disc can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc.! Thus now companies are scrambling now to produce blu-ray products like DVD players, disk drives etc to milk the consumer's purses.One such company is Panasonic which has just unveiled the LF-MB121JD Blu-Ray drive for the PC and is able to support normal DVD and CD formats in addition to the next generation Blu-Ray Discs. It is capable of recording Blu ray discs at 2x speed and DVD±R and DVD+RW at 8x speed. Other formats are recorded in the following speeds; DVD-RW at 6X, DVD-RAM at 5X, CD-R at 24X and CD-RW at 16X speed respectively. The drive comes with Power2Go 5 software and is compatible with Windows 2000 / XP and XP 64 bit edition.
