Microsoft is in the news again and this time for all the wrong reasons!
Nothing new also if you ask me. It has just been reported by experts that the culprit behind the Core Duo platform battery drains none other than the Windows XP SP2. In fact Microsoft was quick to act and has now released a patch which you can download from the website.
The problem is mainly found in Windows Notebook which cannot read or enter into processor idle sleep states, or C-states and the processor stays on a high alert. This problem gives a knee jerk reaction and uses up the battery and makes the CPU hot. One of the reasons the processor can work with the XP notebooks correctly is because of the onboard USB controllers which don’t get turned off. For instance take the ASUS Core Duo notebook with a webcam which leaves a USB controller on all the time. The patch only fixes the ACPI driver that decides which the C-state the processor should reside.
