With names like Tukwila, Montecito, I wonder how much they pay the guys to come up with names like that. I'd like to be a Intel Naming Engineer someday. Nuff said.
Intel's been busy in the realm of multi-core processors lately, first unveiling their quad-core replacement for the Itanium Montecito, named Tukwila, and today -- taking a page out of MC "2 Legit 2 Quit" Hammer's book -- renaming the next-gen mobile Merom and desktop Conroe dual-core chips "Core 2 Duo." What's more, the company announced that another version of the processor will be released for performance junkies, called, not surprisingly, "Core 2 Extreme."

Intel Tukwila tech specs:Intel Tukwila and Intel Core 2 Duo source
* An on-die FB-DIMM memory controller, which will lower access latency. The FB-DIMM controller likely supports 4 channels of memory
* Intel's common systems interconnect (CSI). CSI is a low latency, point to point, serial interconnect that uses differential signaling.
* FSB protocol that will enable both Itanium and Xeon lines to share the same processor socket format and support logic.
* Tukwila is reported to have 6MB of L3 cache per core, or 24MB for each MPU.
* Intel has estimated 40GFLOPS for Tukwila, using four cores.
