
Linksys, unveiled the high end Linksys Gigabit ExpressCard Adapter (EC1000) which can be used with both for both notebooks and desktops. The EC1000 in conjunction with ExpressCard slots will enhanced the overall functionality and performance . According to Linksys, the new card will also result in higher performance during functions like input, output (I/O) and connecting to Gigabit networks. In fact Linksys has big plans for the new card and according to industry pundits, will replace the old CardBus too. This prediction is not far off as many of the current notebooks include the Express Card Slots so a transition in the near future is quite feasible.
“Notebook makers are already shipping computers with ExpressCard slots. Linksys delivers a solution that provides users with the performance enhancements the technology provides. We believe this introduction will help accelerate the use of this new standard," said Tarun Loomba, Linksys Senior Director of Product Marketing.
The EC1000 includes a very different design and comes with a foldable RJ-45 connector for the Cat5e cable. It consumes less power and is pretty cost effective as it draws power from the ExpressCard slot. It is complaint with the ExpressCard/34 standard includes LED indicator and supports operating systems like Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP.
