Man.. I just love the dudes at Samsung. Take any technical field like cameras, cell phones etc and they are always one step ahead of the competition. Now news has just poured in that Samsung by July is all set to roll out a new series of ‘hybrid’ hard drives which has been exclusively designed for the yet to be released Windows Vista. The new Hybrid Hard Disk (HHD) would integrate NAND flash memory with rotating magnetic storage and would be available in cache densities of 128MB and 256MB.
Hybrid hard disks and Windows ReadyDrive™ Technology are integrated advancements that improve the performance and reliability of computers using Windows® Vista, especially notebook computers,” said Mike Sievert, corporate vice president, Windows Client Marketing at Microsoft. “We are very pleased to see Samsung moving so rapidly with HHD technology to prepare for high-volume production in time for the Windows Vista launch.”
One of the main reasons to develop this HD is to curb batteries problems which millions of notebook users face in their daily life due to the hard drive spinning every few minutes. The new HD incorporates the fastest flash device on the market as cache, Samsung's OneNAND flash with 108MB/s read and 18 MB/s write data-rates. The hybrid HH also works thanks to the HDD SOC which supports 3.0G Native Command Queuing SATA and an OneNAND TM interface. The HHD is also able to save about between eight and 25 seconds of boot-up time and extends battery life by about 8-10 percent.
