
Sun Microsystems Inc is buzzing with activity today as it's just unveiled its plans to launch new data storage hardware and software products.
Sun Microsystems Inc is planning to further expand its popular "Try-and-Buy" program which will now include storage products. This is how one industry insider reacted to this news:
They have definitely stumbled around trying to understand their place in the world of storage. But they have acknowledged it's a business and have shored up their installation base, said Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst at market research firm Enterprise Strategy Group.
The new line of products will include the StorageTek 5320 NAS Appliance, which is based on the Opteron processor from Advanced Micro Devices Inc and offers high end functionality and durability. The StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager is another product to be released which will enhances the networks and be more cost efficient. Sun will also work in conjunction with the UNIX operating system, Solaris which means that the systems will also run on JAVA and will the part of next generation storage solutions.
