Looks like Dell wants a piece of the future and now wants to ship notebooks with built-in "draft" 802.11n capability. In fact these notebooks are nearer
than you think as the company would start producing them around the 3Q of this year 2006. Dell would be the first company to step in to this territory and is waiting for the 802.11n spec to be finalized. Many experts feel that
products which are draft-complaint" wouldn’t translate into "upgradeable to 802.11n compliant." In fact Linksys has stated this officially and cannot guarantee that its current line of notebooks would work seamlessly with 802.11n.
For the uninitiated, Draft 1.0 of 802.11n is still in the development stages
and companies for now, are restraining themselves from taking this route. This
next generation draft would be able to deliver speeds of 600Mbps but nothing
is certain as of now. Sounds like vapourware to me.
