Intel has started shipping its VoIP PCI Card which can be attached to any desktop system. This card is quite handy as it lets one connect a standard RJ11 compatible telephone to a PC .Thus one can make any number of VOIP calls without any difficulty. Hardware acceleration is done by the Intel Tiger 320G chipset that supports wideband audio codec's.
So who will benefit from the cards you may ask? Well basically the card is meant for small to medium businesses that want a simple solution to their communication needs and don't want to get in the hassle of setting elaborate setups.
However many industry pundits are surprised by this move as for quite some time the company has been marketing PCI Express card and now companies hardly ship their system with PCI slots. Thus many feel that Intel should have shipped PCI Express x1 based card. But since the 600SM PCI Phone Adapter is been marketed as a business product, so in hindsight it's not that a bad decision. According to Intel the Phone Adapter is ideal for dual-core systems and is compatible with software's like Skype, Engin, Packet8, Yak and other VoIP phone services.
