
Okay this time the news is official; Intel will launch its highly anticipated Xeon 5100 processor on the 26th June. This news no doubt has sent waves of excitement in the technology industry as it’s the first version of a new generation of CPU's built on the firm's "Core" micro architecture. Industry pundits and reporters are already been tipped off of an event which will take place in San Francisco. The company was heard saying that it will announce "game-changing news about its server business and products..."
Hang on there’s more. Intel also says “"Forget what you thought you knew about hybrid technology. Intel now delivers the best of both worlds: high performance and energy efficiency without compromise,” Intel has definitely piqued our interest!
Unofficially, its been heard that the Xeon 5100 (Woodcrest core), will be launched in six different versions, ranging from the 1.6 to 3.0 GHz. The processors will also incorporate 4 MB L2 cache and prices will range from $209 to $851.
There is a desktop version (Core 2 Duo E4000/E6000 series) too in the pipeline
which according to insiders will be released around 23 July and the mobile
version (Core 2 Duo T5000/T7000) by August or September 2006.
