SMC Networks has just launched a new gigabit switch in its TigerSwitch family. The SMC Standalone 24-port 10/100/1000 Giga Managed Switch(SMC8024L2)features 24 auto-MDIX 10/100/1000 ports in a 1RU chassis making it ideal for bandwidth-starved networks that have 4 combo ports (RJ45/SFP). It is able to deliver wire speed in 48Gbps switch fabric and include features like QOS, weighted fair queuing and L2/3/4 IP precedence and management features like IGMP Snooping which allows only IP Multicast traffic transmission which helps in saving bandwidth.
"This new TigerSwitch SMC8024L2 is the first in a new generation of market leading switches to bring you a 24-port Giga Managed Switch in a 1RU footprint with the right features for SMB network, now, and into the future," said Jimmy Goh, VP of Marketing, SMC Networks Asia Pacific. "It is designed for today's growing SMB networks, with the future in mind - to expand growth and configuration changes in the most demanding networks now, and to take to the next level with high quality, upgradeable features."
The SMC Standalone 24-port 10/100/1000 Giga Managed Switch promises performance and functionality claims to perform under dynamic and demanding environments. It delivers enhanced security by ACLs and 802.1x and includes RADIUS authentication and MAC based port security. It is able to support up to 256 port-based or tagged VLANs with advanced QinQ support. Sounds pretty exciting and I hope this can live up to its standards. More news to come…
