Seagate Technology has unveiled two new cost effective, data encrypting 2.5-inch notebook PC hard drives, the Momentus 5400 PSD and the Momentus 5400.2 FDE. Both the hard drives are truly unique and not on increases battery life but also enhances the overall functionality of the computer. Lets just look them briefly.
The Momentus 5400 PSD takes a novel approach as combines a flash memory and a high performing HD into one hybrid device. This means that you actually get a HD in at your disposable which not only extends battery life but also makes the notebook perform like never before. The Seagate 5,400-RPM drive duplicates the hard drive data onto a large 256MB non- volatile cache and thus extends battery life by 50%. Ingenious indeed as I see the same concept applied on Honda Hybrid cars too and it ensures a faster bootup time.
The yet to be released Momentus 5400.2 FDE is perfect for those who need to protect their data and hard drive from unauthorized access and hackers. This is done by the 5,400-RPM drive's hardware-based full disc encryption and by performing all cryptographic operations and key management in the drive it self. One can access the notebook by typing in a password and it is fully compatible with Trusted Platform Module.
