Another announcement made by Seagate Technology which stunned the industry experts is the launch of the new Savvio 10K.2, Seagate's second-generation 2.5-inch enterprise class disc drive. This new drive is not an ordinary piece of equipment and in fact is the world's most reliable enterprise drive. The Savio 10K.2 boasts of a high I/O transaction performance, a 1.6 million hour MTBF reliability, and capacity of up to 146GB. The Savvio 10K.2 is almost 70% smaller than traditional 3.5-inch drives and consumes less power too. Because of its small form factor, the drives will have a smaller chassis size making storage systems highly stable and much cooler.
The Savvio 10K.2 is ideal for blade servers with true enterprise-class storage, 1U servers with full RAID 5 capability, and bigger rack servers. The Savvio 10K.2 is available in the most advanced interfaces: 3Gb Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and the fast 4Gb Fiber Channel.
