D-Link Corporation has begun shipping its hardware and Web-based Internet security device, the SECURESPOT DSD-150. This new device prevents unwanted content from entering both home and small office networks, and it helps parents take control of their children's Internet activities. The DSD-150 is able to protect up to 4 computers and acts as a middleman between the broadband modem and the router. This is a much cheaper alternative compared to purchasing separate anti-virus solutions as well as anti-spyware programs for each individual computer. Measuring just 1" x 4", the DSD-150 will certainly not take up much space and will look right at home beside the modem and router. It also has a Web-based control centre that allows parents to customize the access times of certain computers, block selected keywords and Web sites as well as filtering e-mail addresses. There is even an event log to track suspicious online activities. The Personal Firewall feature offers adequate protection for a home and small office environment, but it just will not do in huge organizations. The DSD-150 will retail for $99.99 and it comes with 1-year licenses for up to four computers. The licensing for a quartet of computers will cost $79.99 per year subsequently. You can purchase additional annual user licenses for $19.99 each.
Pros : Affordable home and small office security solution
Cons : Not suitable for larger business organizations
