Bullet trains in are a crucial mode of transportation as more and more of it's citizens live outside the city centre and rely on these ultra fast trains to get to work.  Bluetooth and mobile TV have been great successes in driven by the fact that commuters really want something interesting to do during the trips.

So, in 2009, there will be a scheduled upgrade on the Tokyo to Osaka line, where Wi-Fi will be added. The bullet trains will have service at 300 km/h that's brought onboard via leaky coaxial cable, a way of pushing out high-frequency signals over wire that can be picked up by onboard receivers.

What is interesting is the plan for wire to be involved seems quite odd when there have already been successful tests of high-speed wireless transmissions to these trains, where they were able to pass signals at 320 km/h.

Whoever said the ride home had to be boring?
