Intel has phased out the 12-year old Pentium processor line after it officially unveiled ten Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors for use in both consumer and business desktops, notebooks, and workstations. Self-proclaimed to be the best processors in the world, the Core 2 Duo desktop processor features an energy-efficient design that crams 291 million transistors but still consuming 40% less power and outperforming the best Pentium chip by 40% as well.

Built using Intel's 65-nanometer silicon process technology, these new processors are able to handle multiple tasks at unprecedented speeds. 5 desktop PC processors and an equivalent amount of mobile PC processors comprise the entire Core 2 Duo family. These new processors are compatible with the Intel 975X, 965, and Mobile Intel 945 Express chipsets that are also Windows Vista-ready as well. The Core 2 Duo processor E6300, E6400, E6600, E6700, and E6800 retail for $183, $224, $316, $530, and $999 respectively. The notebook range comprises of the T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, and the T7600.
