Sharp unveils BroadbandFax UX-B800SE

Sharp has a brand new fax machine in town that aims to narrow the gap between traditional business set ups who remain stubborn with the paper fax and modern4Sharp_UXB800SE.jpg corporations who communicate via e-mail. The BroadbandFax UX-B800SE can be connected to any broadband connection without the need for a PC acting as the middleman. The UX-B800SE can turn any physical documents into the PDF format in an instant that can then be mailed over via the broadband connection. This will cut down costs at your company as it does away with the need for fee-based Internet faxed services. The UX-B800SE is equipped with a QWERTY keyboard that enables you to enter e-mail addresses quickly and efficiently. This easily programmable office equipment uses a Web-based system that allows any user connected to the network to key in a speed dial number, e-mail addresses, and even e-mail groups from a Web browser. Expect to see the Sharp BroadbandFax UX-B800SE hit stores sometime this month at the recommended retail price of $159.99.

Pros : Bridges divide between traditional paper fax and digital e-mail world, cost saving
Cons : Stability issues when faxing double-sided pages

This is a great concept. Too bad it doesn't work. According to my ISP (at&t) and the Sharp representative, everything is set-up correctly. The only response I get for emailed faxes is "SERVER ERROR (-14)". I feel that this product was not fully tested. It also does not provide for secure email authentication (SSL).

sad case. I feel for you...sometimes mistakes do happen....Can you refund the Sharp fax ?

I was able to get a full refund. If the firmware is updated to support at&t/sbc dsl (or pop before smtp authentication), I would buy another one.

yes I fully agree, this whole machine is a joke, just like Google's Toilet ISP solution. It might be an idea, just never worked- couldn't believe Sharp as a company is making such a joke

The machine would be great if it worked. I keep getting connection error (-8), and sharp has no idea what that means. On my first call to tech support the matter had to be escalated to "real tech support." I was promissed a call back within 48 hrs. After two weeks no one has called me back. I have even called them two more times in this period to get an update, but I get the same answer, nobody at Sharp knows what error (-8) means. It's pitiful, they built the machine and coded the error message, why would't they know what it means.

I have no choice but to return the machine before my return period expires.

We are beta testing the mahine for them. Don't buy it.

Right it does not work well. I ran it out of ink tried to refill the cartridge, error message says "check cartridge", ordered a new one, error message. Company did kind of respond, butI live way out and at hte time had to had some kind of fax for outgoing docs, so it still sits here a year later. All I use it for is faxing out.
