Looks like they have finally placed a name on the $100 laptop from One Laptop per Child Organization. Known as the 2B1, this laptop is more than capable of creating its very own mesh network out of the box. This means you can connect two

computers together without an Internet connection, and when one of the computers is connected to the Internet, the other can freely share the connection automatically. The 2B1 is powered by AMD's 400Mhz Geode processor and comes with 128MB RAM and 512MB of single-level cell NAND flash memory. It does pretty well in the power consumption territory, using just one watt of power. Features include a 7.5" TFT display with a resolution of 1200 x 900 pixels, built-in VoIP capability, a webcam, a SD memory card slot, three USB 2.0 ports, a microphone, and a speaker. The 2B1 is roughly the same size as a textbook and is extremely portable. Unfortunately, it has a lifespan of approximately five years which could hamper the progress of developing countries when it comes to spreading the IT gospel.
Pros: Cheap laptop
Cons: Lifespan of only 5 years

Good attempt to bring the internet to every child in the world. I think it will take longer than 5 years to spread technology to all children of the world. Is there a plan in placet to renew these computers when they wear out?
