We have clamshell phones that come with dual displays, and the same applies to a certain handheld console which was recently given a hardware refresh by Nintendo. Especially in the case of cellphones, the external display might not be the primary one, but it does play an important role by displaying metadata, enabling the user to get a feel of the entire situation without going through the hassle of opening up the clamshell handset in the first place. Such an idea has been extended to the world of notebooks, and Asus has toyed around with this concept in its upcoming notebook.
Meant for use with the soon-to-be-released Windows Vista operating system, this concept notebook has a secondary display on the outside which informs the user of data such as the number of e-mails left in the inbox, the currently playing song along with its track title, artist and album name, etc., without having the need to open up the entire notebook in the first place. Not sure when a production unit will be released though.
