ATI wants to claim back the performance crown from NVIDIA in the graohics processing market, and they will attempt this coup by introducing the R600 which is
long overdue. The new R600 chip will come with an extremely high frequency and 64 unified Shader units. To the layman, that means you will probably get 60 Shader

and some vertex information per clock at best. Word has it that ATI plans to achieve a frequency that is higher than 700MHz in the final chip, which is something every avid gamer will look forward to. The R600 is manufactured based on the 80 nanometer process and will most probably miss the holiday season as it will be released sometime in January or February next year. Chances are high that its release will come after the equally delayed Windows Vista is unleashed upon the world. This next generation chip will most likely be the second one out in the market, as NVIDIA's G80 would have long bolted out of the stable doors by then.
Pros : Fast clock speed-, Windows Vista compatible
Cons : Released only in Q1 next year
R600 late but has high clock speed Source
