All good things must come to an end, and it is no different with the new GDDR4 memory which will replace the tried-and-true GDDR3 standard. Industry analysts

expect that GDDR4 memory will make its way into mainstream performance and high-end parts across a variety of devices as early as next year. Samsung's GDDR4 memory at 1GHz DDR yield is near perfect, while yields of higher clocked parts are pretty impressive so far. A perfect yield bodes well for consumers, making even graphic boards fitted with GDDR4 memory to fall within the $200 sweet spot category. This would translate to a free bump up to 32GB/s of bandwidth, compared to current performance figures of 16GB/s and 18GB/s. With an affordable GDDR4 memory flooding the market, more and more people will be able to enjoy 4x FSAA and anisotropic filtering without forking out an arm and a leg. In light of this, even the next-generation console games will look pretty bland with a high entry price.
Pros : Almost perfect yields, faster performance at same price point
Cons : Not out in the mainstream market yet
