Lenovo and IBM has had enough with Sony's combustible batteries and decided to recall approximately 526,000 lithium-ion batteries that are used in their notebooks voluntarily in line with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's plea.

Lenovo will be offering a free replacement for recalled batteries, and have listed the following batteries as eligible for this recall exercise - T Series (T43, T43p, T60),X Series (X60, X60s), and R Series (R51e, R52, R60, R60e) with the Battery Part/model numberof ASM P/N FRU P/N, 92P1072 92P1073, 92P1088 92P1089, 92P1142 92P1141, 92P1170 92P1169 or 93P5028, and 92P1174 92P1173 or 93P5030. Sony has officially agreed to support this recall exercise financially, and this will add to the waiting lines which comprises of Dell, Apple, and Toshiba at the moment. Users can still use their Thinkpad notebooks without the battery by plugging in their AC adapter, sacrificing mobility in the process.
