Intel has released details regarding the new Quad-Core Xeon processors which will share the same design as the recently announced Intel Core 2 Quadro, down to the very same Kentsfield core. Both chips are essentially the same, and the only
difference between the Core 2 Quadro and the Xeon quad-core CPUs are their names and target markets. This could come across as misleading to consumers who do not know any better - why can't Intel just settle for one name? The new Quad-core Xeon processors will be named Xeon X3220 and clocked at 2.4GHz, while the Xeon X3210 is clocked at 2.13GHz. Both the X3220 and X 3210 will come equipped with a 1066MHz FSB and 8MB of Level 2 cache. Expect to see these new powerful processors sometime in Q1 2007 with the X3220 and X3210 retailing for
$851 and $690 respectively.
