The Samsung Q1 UMPC has been out for quite some time now, but the Korean electronics giant decided to introduced a souped-up version by removing the traditional hard drive and packing in solid state memory, also known as SSD. The new Q1 will be equipped with a 32GB SSD which does away with the

disadvantages of a normal hard drive such as slower read/write speeds and data integrity damage in the event of falls and shocks. SSD is as quiet as RAM and outstrips the hard drive when it comes to performance tests, thanks to the non-moving parts and extremely fast speeds. Initial tests show that the Q1, despite being powered by an Intel Celeron processor, performs so fast that you would think it is one of the high-end Core 2 Duo processors instead. The next time somebody scoffs at your SSD-equipped Q1 UMPC and its 512MB of RAM, show them how fast it can go. The only difference between the SSD version and the standard Q1 UMPC would be the phrase "Solid State Disk" located in the upper left corner. Pricing details are currently unavailable, but you can be sure that it won't be cheap since SSD is still very expensive per MB when compared against normal hard drives.
Pros : Runs on solid state memory which is faster and more stable than normal hard drives
Cons : Solid state memory still very expensive
