Sony has launched a quartet of DVD/CD Rewritable Drives that are based on the 12th generation optical storage technology. The 830 Series drives boast a write speed of 18x DVD±R which is capable often filling a standard 4.7GB 16x DVD±R

disc within 5 minutes. The internal DRU-830A and external DRX-830U will ship with the all-conquering Nero 7 software and works on the Windows platform. If you own a Mac, the DRX-830UL is the perfect device for you as it boasts dual compatibility with both Mac and Windows platforms. Notebook owners can check out the DRX-S50U super slim external drive. The DRU-830A, DRX-830U, DRX-830UL, and DRX-S50U will retal for $70, $100, $120, and $130 respectivelt from October onwards. With the advent of flash drives that come in ever larger capacities, is it viable to invest in one of these? After all, normal 650 MB rewriteable CDs are so passe these days.
