Toshiba has managed to merge both the DVD and HD DVD into a single piece plate of optical media, making it easier to store content on either format and having
a wider audience. All three layers merged on a single plate enables the DVD to remain as thin as possible. For example, you can have a single layer DVD (4.7GB) with a dual layer HD DVD (30GB) configuration, or a dual layer DVD (8.5GB) with a single layer HD DVD (15GB) configuration on a single disc. When will this new form of media reach the public, we are not sure. Nevertheless, the possibilities of such media is astounding as you can use the very same media on both standard DVD drives as well as the newer HD DVD drives.Pros : More storage space and greater compatibility
