Black Diamond Introduces SwitchBack Mobile PC Running Multiple OS
Want a survivor type of PC? Then the SwitchBack Mobile PC is the thing just for you. I think even crocodile Dundee would also opt for this one. Claiming to be claimed to be the world's first rugged UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer). It is only the size of 7.5" x 5.5" x 2" and Black-Diamond-SwitchBack45.jpegrunning a 1.0GHz Intel Celeron M processor, the SwitchBack comes with 1GB of 400MHz DDR2 and up to 60GB in the form of a removable hard drive. The body is made entirely of magnesium housing that is entwined with with rubber isolators and shock-mounted electronics, a design that exceed military specifications (MIL-STD) for shock, vibration, humidity and extreme temperatures.

It can run with can run Windows XP, Windows CE, Windows Mobile or Linux. Such a small device that perform as well as any desktop PC are expected to and yet so portable and mobile. It features a built-in thumb keyboard and a 5.6-inch WSVGA sunlight-viewable touchscreen with stylus, it can be used outside or on the go. Wireless capabilities are Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi b/g and GPS. Additional hardware can also be added to expand the performance and capabilities. The company says the device will be capable of running multiple OS simultaneously or independently, within the selection of Windows XP, Windows Mobile, Windows CE and Linux and will be available by 2007. Everything seems to be wonderful except one catch, the SwitchBack PCs will be initially available with Windows XP systems only, with the ability to receive downloadable upgrades for dual processor and simultaneous task operation in Q2 2007. But hey, products this good is worth the wait right?
