Microsoft starts test of new VoIP server
10 years from now, people will be seeing our good old home phones inside a museum of voip-logo78.jpghistory. As Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has predicted that during that time, all business communications will be Web-based, meaning hundreds of millions of people will change how they communicate. They can say this as they are now venturing further into the business telephone market battling their way against Cisco Systems Inc., International Business Machines Corp. and other technology companies seeking to bounty in the on growing demand for VoIP. As first step to this new venture they already started testing a new computer server software that allows corporate customers to make Web-based phone calls through its Office suite of business software last Monday.

Microsoft believes that the Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 which is due to be released in the April-June quarter of 2007 will pave their way into the business telephone market. If also their predictions are right, by this time other large companies have already switched over to the cheaper Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, leaving the stage all to themselves. It is also wise of Microsoft to think of letting the companies to test the new product first, maybe as a matter of early advertising on their part as well. With the new technology, users can instantly call anyone from within office applications Just by clicking on the persons name.

The whole idea is indeed promising and if well implemented will sure earn a lot of recognition from users as it will make communication in the business industry easier. So for now we are keeping our fingers cross for Microsoft.
