Today the British carrier 3 has announced the new Skypephone. The mobile can perform usual tasks, but more important it allows users to make free Internet calls. It also provides voice and video calls through 3's regular network.
This mobile could be a great addition for companies that deliver services on the field. The calls between Skype users are free, so the management staff could interact with employees at anytime with no costs. The Skypephone requires a Wi-Fi connection or an unlimited 3G data plan. However, if someone need to dial a regular number not a Skype ID, then he should use the 3's network.
As I see it, the Skypephone could replace any fixed and mobile telephony devices. The main advantage are the low costs and the mobility conferred. Instead of using the PC Skype software, you could easily chat with the Skyphone having the possibility to check some papers, or to receive a fax. Furthermore, you won't miss a call when you leave the desk. That means increased productivity for the business.
The new Skypephone was priced at £49.99 (or $102.6) on a pay-as-you-go basis. On the other hand, you get it free when signing a contract. The good news is the company will launch the phone in Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Macau and Sweden by the end of the year.
