AMD has announced today its high-performing AMD Phenom quad-core processors - 9600 (2.3GHz) and 9500 (2.2GHz). The Phenom processors are based on the 65nm process technology and feature just about 450 million transistors. AMD's technology is under the Intel's achievements with 800 million transistors of Yorkfield processor.
Phenom processors feature the HyperTransport 3.0 technology and come up to 14.4 GB/second of high bandwidth I/O. The infrastructure flexibility of AM2+ socket is designed to be compatible with future 65nm and 45nm AMD Phenom processors. The AMD Phenom quad-core processors are based on Direct Connect Architecture and are able to support memory speeds up to DDR2 1066(2), 128-bit floating point units and AMD’s Balanced Smart Cache for rapid access to memory. Moreover a shared L3 cache will offer enhanced performance on multi-threaded software.
Along with the Phenom processors, AMD intros the AMD Spider platform which combines the ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series graphics processors with Microsoft DirectX 10.1 support, AMD 7-Series chipsets with CrossFireX and AMD OverDrive software.
AMD Phenom processors 9600 (2.3GHz) and 9500 (2.2GHz) retail for $283 and $251 respectively, while the 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz Phenomn 9700 and 9900 will be available in Q1 2008 for $300 and $350, respectively. In case you need some gear for multimedia purposes, you should know the ATI Radeon HD 3850 with 256MB of GDDR3 memory begins at $179 and the ATI Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory from $219.

These are cheap prices, Mihnea. I'll never cease to be amazed at how tiny yet powerful these puppies are.
