SanDisk prepares a new solid-state storage solution for the upcoming CES 2008. The device was presented at a press conference at CES Unveiled. SanDisk Vaulter won the Best of Innovations 2008 in the Enabling Technologies category.
Now let me tell you what it can do. First of all, SanDisk Vaulter Disk is a flash-based PCI Express module compatible with both laptops and desktop computers. It works in parallel with a regular hard drive adding faster loading speeds. The benefits of flash memory come from higher loading speeds than those obtained by regular spinning hard drives. Besides, it offers high performance with low energy consumption. To obtain better results, SanDisk recommends installing the OS right on the Vaulter Disk. The other hard drive could hold the files and applications that don't need fast loading.
The Vaulter Disk will ship in 8GB or 16GB capacities. Also it will be offered to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) early next year. The device will be on display during CES 2008 in the SanDisk booth. No word on pricing yet.
