Samsung has introduced four new WiMax devices for the Korean market: a portable computer (SPH-P9200), a PDA (SPH-M8200) and two USB modems (SWT-H200K and SPH-H1300). The Mobile WiMAX devices are available through Korea Telecom(KT)'s Mobile WiMAX network.
"We will continue to introduce Mobile WiMAX devices and expand our portfolio of mobile convergence devices", said Geesung Choi, President of Samsung's Telecom Network Business.
The WiMax portable computer (SPH-P9200) features 1GHz Via CPU, 512MB of RAM, a fold-out QWERTY keyboard and runs Windows XP. It supports voice calls, video -telephony, HSDPA and Wi-Fi. In addition, 30GB of storage will meet your needs. It costs around $1,500.
The SPH-M8200 PDA supports both WiMax and EVDO wireless networking. It runs Windows Mobile 5. The gadget sports a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, DMB TV and a camera. The SPH-M8200 will retail for $750.
The two USB WiMax data modems - the SWT-H200K and the SPH-H1300 - make possible the use of Mobile WiMax technology on laptops. The latter model includes HSDPA support. Both modems work with Windows XP and Vista. They will cost $90 and $180, respectively.
In the near future the WiMax technology is expected in other countries. However in US, the technology is underdeveloped right now. In Seoul the WiMax services have gathered around 70,000 subscribers and number is raising.
