You may think: "What's the DisplayPort?"The Video Electronics Standards Association named it the new standard interface which may replace DVI and VGA connections and will be an alternative to HDMI technology. The DisplayPort connection is able to offer 24-bit, 8-channel audio and also a dedicated auxiliary link, which can be used for panel I/O and mic connections. While the HDMI is targeted for consumer electronics (TVs, DVD players, the DisplayPort was designed for computers.
The big companies showed their interest in this new technology. But AMD has already revealed the its first video card based on DisplayPort architecture. The video card called RV635 XT has been tested at Hothardware. It doesn't feature the TMDS chips like the dual-link DVI-D connections, which also are responsible with the higher pricing. DisplayPort cables can be used to daisy-chain devices providing connection with three or more monitors simultaneously.
No price or availability details were announced. I think we could see it in stores somewhere in the first quarter of 2008.
