Inte
l was credited by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the number one in both its Green Power Partners Top 25 list and the Fortune 500 Green Power Partners list. The Green Power Partnership aims to reduce the environmental impact of conventional electricity use. For this reason the partners purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs), which represent the "currency" of the clean energy marketplace.
"EPA applauds our Fortune 500 partners for protecting our environment by purchasing green power," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "By voluntarily shifting to renewable energy, Intel is proving you don't need to wait for a signal in order to go green."
Intel's REC portfolio includes wind, solar, small hydro-electric and biomass energy procurement. The purchase will be handled by Sterling Planet, a leading national supplier of renewable energy solutions, and verified by the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions' Green-e program.
