Ubuntu Linux is one of the most successful Linux platforms. Ubuntu is a free and open source software, with an impressive community around. It is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers and it contains applications like: a web browser, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and multimedia software. IBM sustains Linux as an enterprise OS and it is preparing to deliver Lotus Notes enterprise collaboration software and Lotus Symphony office productivity applications with full support for Ubuntu Linux 7.0.
IBM's marketing officer, Antony Satyadas, told that more than 100,000 customers asked support for Ubuntu Linux. More small businesses have oriented for the free OS alternative, as the Linux has become more stable and efficient in the last years. Thus, IBM thinks this year Linux is ready for corporate use.
The availability of Lotus Notes 8.5 and Lotus Symphony will be a win for customers everywhere, explained Mark Murphy, vice president of alliances for Canonical, the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu Linux.
