Today Opera has announced Google Search will be available as the default application for its mobile web browsers. Opera's two mobile products, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile will provide increased search relevancy with Google Search.
"With 2008 poised to be the year the mobile Web goes mainstream, Google and Opera are extending this collaboration to give our users immediate access to the quality and convenience of Google's search results. We're excited to extend this productive relationship and we hope that the nearly 100 million people using our mobile products will agree," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera.
Over 35 million users surf Internet from their mobiles with Opera Mini and over 100 million mobile phones were shipped with integrated Opera Mobile. Usually, consumers with phones that offer limited browsing capabilities have downloaded Opera Mini. They generate over 1.7 million page views per month, mostly through the search function in the browser. As Google Search has the first option for the desktop application for seven years, Opera considered the its addition for the mobile platforms. I find this action very useful as I am a frequent user of Opera Mini on my Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
