Even the SSDs didn't get mainstream yet, the business attracts new manufacturers as the market grows constantly. The latest manufacturer that produces SSDs is Imation. The company, which is well known for its CDs and DVDs, has just announced its new 2.5” SATA MOBI 3000 and 7000 series models. The two models come out of partnership with Mtron, which sustain its technology delivers the highest speed rates on the market.
Imation's solid state drives were conceived for high-end markets. The MOBI 3000 could be a great addition for home users, while the 7000 series are suited for the enterprise use. Imation promises data read rates of 100 MB/s for 3000 models and up to 120 MB/s for the 7000 series. Write rates are 80 MB/s and 90 MB/s, respectively.
As you might expected, these SSDs cost too much at the moment. The 32GB 3000 series will retail for $700 and the 7000 series for $1160. But the bad news comes from the online stores which have priced the drives higher than Imation's pricelist. In some stores the drives cost as much as $1180 for the 3000 series. Also a 64GB version of the 7000 series retails between 1875 and $2880.
