Linksys and Trend Micro have reached an agreement on integrating the ProtectLink Gateway technology with the hardware support. In this way they will protect users and smaller businesses against spam, phishing, and viruses. Furthermore the technology allows control over visited sites and blocks unsafe sites. It also controls incoming email and retains spam messages, phishing messages, spyware and other malicious programs.
Trend Micro is one of the market leaders in security over Internet. The company disposes of a huge database of known malicious sites that could install malware. Linksys will pair Trend Micro's service as a built-in option on several of its routers which will block access for untrusted websites. In addition, businesses have the option to create custom filter for securing the Internet access.
The subscription service costs $149.99 per year for five users or $614.99 per year for 25 users. Linksys has introduced the service for their 10/100 4-Port VPN Router and intends to add support for their Ethernet-only and Wi-Fi Wireless-N gigabit Ethernet routers with VPN.
In my opinion adding such a supplementary security service could only be a great benefit for Internet users. Surfing the Internet nowadays is not so easy. Firewalls and antiviruses could suffer security holes when not updated. But with ProtectLink Gateway service I am sure the security level ranks much better.
