That's realy amazing! The total number of mobile broadband subscribers has increased with over 850 percent over the last year. Most of them are using the HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) which offer speeds between 1.8Mbps and 7.2Mbps. Today there are over 32 million subscribers compared with 3 million one year ago.
The customers have discovered the mobile internet over the GSM carriers. Using a smartphone or notebook they can connect from every area with GSM coverage. The growth have taken the GSM operators by surprise. However, the operators have encountered problems with concerning the network's capacity and backhaul - the links that attach base stations to the rest of the world.
The only way to resist at this enormous amount of subscribers, is to built new networks and to develop new relation with home users. The latest wireless standard, called WiMax will boost the subscriptions too. Carriers prepare!
