Western Digital plans to release its new line of VelociRaptor hard drives next month. The drives come with increased performance, up to 35% than previous models. The enterprise-class drive offers 10,000 RPM and a 16MB buffer. That means quick access to cached data and fast loading for the commonly used programs.
"We created WD VelociRaptor hard drives to lead PC enthusiasts into the next era of PC and Mac storage performance and satisfy their insatiable thirst for computing speed. The new WD VelociRaptor delivers the greatest performance and reliability of all SATA hard drives currently on the market," said Tom McDorman, vice president and general manager of WD's enterprise business unit.
Also you should know that the 2.5" SATA drive has a 3 Gbit/s interface, and a 120 Mbyte/s buffer-to-disk rate, as the company described it. The VelociRaptor has 300GB of storage and retails for $299.99. It is perfect for performance enthusiast systems, workstations, and low-end servers.
