Apple has announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference the Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the next major version of the world’s most advanced operating system. The OS is scheduled to ship next year. The new Snow Leopard is optimized for multi-core processors and will enhance the performance of Mac OS X. It reduces the footprint of Mac OS X, giving users more hard drive memory for their favorite photos and music.
An important feature to be mentioned is the Microsoft Exchange support. The Snow Leopard will include out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Exchange 2007 built into Mail, Address Book, and iCal. The Grand Central technology makes the system multicore aware and optimizes it for allocating tasks across multiple cores and processors. That helps developers too, because Grand Central gives the advantage to use every power drop from all cores when creating a particular program. Moreover the 64-bit technology makes it possible to benefit from more RAM memory.
Snow Leopard comes with media and Internet enhancements like the new Quicktime X player, which is able to stream media containing the newest codecs. Besides, the Snow Leopard delivers the fastest implementation of JavaScript to date, which means programs like Safari browser run faster.
The last feature presented is the OpenCL (Open Computing Language), which makes it possible for developers to use the power locked up in the graphics processing unit (GPU). With this utility, the power will be redirected for computing purposes.
